WORKING WITH PINTER

Harry Burton‘s 2007 Channel 4 film Working with Pinter is a unique documentary about a unique writer. With unprecedented access to Harold Pinter in rehearsal with actors, the film captures his collaborative spirit, offering a remarkable insight into his writing.

Accompanying Working With Pinter on this DVD is an in-depth filmed interview with the playwright, including previously unseen material that explores his views on acting, directing and writing. Together, the two films express the essence of Harold Pinter as a supremely human writer, actor, political activist and intellectual.

“The film certainly captures a contented, relaxed and engaged Pinter” British Universities Film and Video Council

“If Harry Burton’s masterclass proves anything, it’s that the things that drove Pinter 50 years ago still do so; age may have mellowed him but he remains a very political animal. Burton uses long interviews with Pinter and his friend and collaborator Henry Woolf to get to the nub of Pinter’s once-revolutionary writing style, how acting gave him an idea of what would “shut an audience up” and his surprising views on those trademark “pauses”. With excerpts from The Dumb Waiter and No Man’s Land, Burton also shows what it’s like to work with Pinter and the demands his very specific style makes on a cast.”
